During the Olympics…

Posted in Exhibitions, Olympic Logo a Day project, Random Project, Sarah Hyndman, With Relish by Type Tasting on August 20, 2012

Recent months have been pretty busy with my focus on a couple of Olympics inspired projects during what has been such an exciting time to be living and working in London.

Random Project 2012
The Random Project 2012 is an undertaking I organise and curate which is encouraging mass creativity. It is open to everybody to participate in and as the year unfolds it is creating a documentary of 2012.

The summer exhibition was timed to coincide with the Olympic Games as a way everybody could join in and celebrate. This took place over two weeks at Rich Mix in East London and has had such a great response. The project will continue to the end of 2012 when the collection will be shown as a timeline of the year. Olympic Logo a Day
This was a small, personal project of mine that took the blog and twittersphere by storm. In its last month the Olympic Logo a Day blog received nearly 35,000 views from over 120 countries. It gained international coverage and the surprise highlights were my being filmed by the BBC World Service and interviewed by the New York Times.

The Olympic Logo a Day blog has been written about in the New York Times, Blueprint magazine, Design Week, The Drum, Follow the Colours Brazil, Logo Design Love, Londonist, Creative Boom, Eye magazine, Dezeen, Handpicked London, Everything London, GQ, Jessica Ennis’ official website, Telegraph, Treehugger and the ‘alternative Olympic posters’ became the ‘top news story’ on Twitter in the week they were released…

More ideas are in the pipeline, I’ll keep you posted.

The Random Project 2012 is becoming truly international, apart from the submissions and emails we’ve had from around the world, here’s an article in this month’s Page magazine from Germany.

Casa Viva magazine – Designer of the Month

Casa Viva magazine have me as their featured Designer of the Month this month – for my ‘playful’ Olympic projects and teaching experiences, but I’m not sure that the gardening deserved a mention having just looked out at the sadly neglected lawn.

Major Random exhibition to be at Rich Mix

Posted in Exhibitions, Random Project, Sarah Hyndman by Type Tasting on May 17, 2012

I am delighted to announce that the major Random Project 2012 Exhibition will take place at Rich Mix in London from 2nd – 19th August.

Rich Mix is located in an old garment factory in the heart of vibrant Shoreditch and close to the City and Olympic site. The venue is an art gallery, performance space and cinema with an ongoing programme of exciting events and activities.

The exhibition will open as part of First Thursdays, where the galleries and museums of east London open their doors late for a chance to see amazing art, culture and events after hours. The exhibition will be a growing exhibition as more postcards are added to fill the entire gallery space. We will be running postcard making sessions and events – please check our website nearer the time for details.

Random Project 2012 Branding & Website

Posted in Random Project, With Relish by Type Tasting on March 4, 2012

The Random Project 2012 identity and website have been creative by Sarah Hyndman of With Relish. The identity combines Knochen and Lubalin Graph typefaces to create a modular system which can be adapted for a wide range of scenarios.

Typefaces
Lubalin Graph is by Herb Lubalin. It’s a slab serif font which retains a geometric appearance and the large x-height of the Avant Garde Gothic on which its design was based. Knochen is by graphic designer and typographer Martin Aleith from the Berlin-based collective Pfadfinderei.

Website
Typekit Fonts for WordPress: Museo Slab Serif and Museo Sans Serif.

Random Project 2012

Posted in London, Random Project by Type Tasting on January 18, 2012

After the success of the Random Project in 2006, it seems very timely to launch a new 2012 version to coincide with the Olympics coming to London.

The Random Project 2012 will showcase a growing collection of postcards which are created by everybody. These will celebrate the spirit of London 2012 and enable us to visually document the shared cultural experience as the year unfolds – we will all become the artists-in-residence for a historic year.
