Rescued Books

Posted in Hand printed, With Relish by Type Tasting on April 24, 2012

It seems wrong to throw away a book, even if it’s falling apart or it’s been usurped by the interactive map on my shiny mobile phone. This is a series of prints that gives the damaged books I come across a new home and gives a nod to the printed page. The prints will gradually change colour over time as the pages yellow and the white ink appears to get brighter by contrast.

The first titles will be launched at the Unlimited Editions shop as part of Open House in Brighton.

Roll Up for Dog Bingo

Posted in Dog Bingo, Hand printed by Type Tasting on December 4, 2011

We had a fantastic day yesterday – printing dog posters live in the studio, playing Dog Bingo with Lucy’s canine bingo calls & all the studios open. We’re looking forward to another fun-filled day – come along if you’re in the Dalston/N16 area today.

Dog Bingo Live

My colleague Lucy has adopted a rescued eight-year-old Yorkshire terrier called Pip. It’s fair to say that things have been a bit dog-crazy in the studio over the last few weeks and Lucy has been very impressed by the dog home who rescued and fostered Pip whist finding him a new, permanent home.

As part of The Chocolate Factory N16’s Winter Open Studio’s, With Relish will be raising money for The Mayhew Animal Home to say thank you for all their work and to raise awareness for animal rescue centres. We’ll be playing Dog Bingo and selling limited edition lino prints. £10 from the sale of each print will go to The Mayhew as well as all the proceeds from Dog Bingo.

We’ve created a range of materials to promote the event. These include teaser postcards, Youtube movies, event signage and an online gallery.

It’s a Knock Out

Posted in Hand printed, Process & Effect series by Type Tasting on March 22, 2011

It’s a productive day of live screen printing at Pick Me Up at Somerset House. Here are the first designs of the Process & Effect series: Rumble in the jungle, printed and drying. They’re two colour screen prints on A2 art card, each will be embossed, numbered and signed. Next up are the Apple posters, my ‘love letter’ to Steve Jobs and the inventions that have changed our lives.

High tech meets low fi

Posted in Hand printed, Process & Effect series by Type Tasting on March 22, 2011

Time for a few experiments before printing the final thing. The room at Somerset House is pretty hot and we don’t have all our usual equipment so I’m prepared for my the ink to dry into the screen quicker than usual. I’ve chosen to play with screen printing ‘teaser’ cards with QR codes on crappy paper and corrugated card–I like the contrast of high tech codes in low fi materials. These prompt plenty of discussion and demonstrations from me.

Even the smudged one where it stuck to the screen works with the reader app.

The QR codes link to full images of the posters, and additional information on the inspiration behind each design. I’ve left a trail of A5 QR codes around the gallery and on the way home…

Pick Me Up at Somerset House

Posted in Hand printed, Process & Effect series by Type Tasting on March 19, 2011

Pick Me Up has opened, and although I’m not printing live until Tuesday I thought it wouldn’t hurt to get my posters seen around the venue. The test prints are now up on the wall in the pop up Print Club workshop. We carried a print around with us for the day like an impromptu golf sale sign, interesting to see that it caught quite a few people’s attention.
