Off Screen – Brighton Rock

Posted in Hand printed by Type Tasting on March 26, 2010

Two versions of this print in aqua and salmon, the salmon is fairly translucent so printing it second meant that a third colour could be made from the overprint. This worked surprisingly well, especially where it was slightly out of register.

The print references candy rock stripes, mods and music – the typeface is Rodchenko, also used on The Who’s My Generation album cover. The small print says “it’s not a race it’s a ride” (quote from Steve G’s Random project), and “hottest day predicted for bank holiday weekend”.

The first set were printed over pages from Graham Greene’s Brighton Rock but the simplicity of the overprint was lost so a second set were printed on plain white card.
