A Friday of shelves
The plan is to keep all the clutter, books, reference materials, stationary etc upstairs so that downstairs can stay completely clear with just a couple of trestle tables and the make and do stuff.
Settling in
It’s going to take a while to really settle in and organise things, I’m hoping to get a good go at that next week after my talk at the LDF, but need to focus on getting that written for now otherwise I’m going to have a very akward and embarassing time on that stage. Slides, I need slides, you don’t need to say much if you have pretty pictures to show!

I’ve hung out my Mexican El Día de los Muertos bunting to make the space look bright until I get round to unpacking properly.
The new studio

I’d only ever seen the studio once, six weeks ago, with Ike’s blackout curtains and it was full of furniture. I was in for a bit of a shock when Ike handed over the keys on Saturday and I walked in to find this bright and absolutely massive space. It gave me a bit of a “what have I done?” scare but that soon wore off. A weekend of carting things around and moving them in and it’s done. Now what to do in the space?
Open Studio Weekend
Open Studio weekend at the Chocolate Factory is done and dusted. It’s been a relaxed but social weekend beginning with the private view party night. We’ve now packed it up and are now sitting in the White Heart garden having a well-earned drink!

English Summertime postcards

Summertime Postcards
I’ve created a series of letterpress and etching inspired postcards to celebrate the promise of a hot English summer. The idea is that you don’t have to go on holiday to send a postcard, and they continue the style of typography I was experimenting with at Christmas. The large A5 size postcards on 400gsm card combine gingham, nostalgia and childhood memories with Victorian botanical prints of the plants and insects found in a typical English summer day.
Long balmy summer days in the park, grassy beer gardens, road trips to the seaside, kiss me quick, fizzy pop and ice cream…
The sets of postcards will be launched at the Open Studio event at the Chocolate Factory N16 on June 20th/21st surrounded by astroturf and bunting. They come in sets of 4 for £5 and will also be available via the With Relish website: www.withrelish.co.uk
As seen in this week’s Design Week!
And to go with the lashings of bunting I’ve spent the evening pushing through my sewing machine, I’m going to bake ‘Carry On Cookies’ tomorrow – letter shaped gingerbread cookies spelling out saucy holiday messages!
